You do what you can to not stay insane
People have been suggesting I try to get my life and mind in order by scheduling out my days. I am happy to report that after a few months of this system, it seems to be working.
Here is my weekly schedule, living in an RV:
- Monday - sleeping
- Tuesday - hike
- Wed - sit in the sun and read
- Thurs - napping
- Friday - organize the RV
- Sat - more sleeping
- Sun - watch birds do bird things and wander around
It’s been pretty good. I highly recommend this routine to people who feel like they are broken inside and need lots of internal, unbothered, quiet time.
It’s been so successful that I ACTUALLY feel like writing again. And working on my inbox, answering emails and thinking about possible ways to make money. The best part is no one is pushing me…it’s just coming out organically. I feel like doing things again.
I hope I have really found a turning point for myself, but I don’t want to put out too much hope into it. I will just roll with what is given. ![]()

It’s so good to hear from you! I was just lurking around a couple of your blogs the other day to see how you were doing. Love the schedule and glad you’re taking care of yourself.

Thanks, Sandra! It’s really been enlightening. I almost think I should write a book called, “The Virtues of Doing Nothing,” …but then I realize writing a book would interfere with my schedule.
well, on this forced hiatus, I have a similar schedule, but once I have to go back to my outside the apt work, I have a feeling all hell will break loose again.
Glad you’re enjoying life on the road.

Take the time to do as I do. Like, do absolutely nothing. You can’t watch your geese at this place, but you’ve got that great screened in porch to see life go by. And don’t forget to do lots of sleeping and reading.
I bet your doctor would prescribe this week!
What? Do nothing? Heresy! Multi-tasking is the way to go. Sleep? Bah!
Will be nice to do some nothing by the pool once I get to Florida!
It is heresy. Our society is founded on GOING, GOINGGOINGFOING….we even multitask our relaxation now.
Jeanne, you just have a few more weeks of crazy busy…and then can allow yourself to take it slow. Get settled in your new home slowly. Bask in the sun by the pool and read useless novels.
Wow that is quite a schedule. I wish I could get on a schedule like that. Congratulations, and keep up the good work.
Thanks, Brewt. Living in an RV is pretty nice if you can just earn enough to buy gas and food.
I too have been keeping a similar schedule (at least the nap parts), as I am currently part of the “transitional workforce”… otherwise known as unemployed. Sounds like you have your life moving along in a comfortable, relaxed pace. You must have great blood pressure readings!
It sounds like an idyllic schedule but personally, I might try to get round or two of golf in - somewhere in between the napping
This sounds like great advice to me. Nothing like a mental charge-up.
Eric, it’s basically a version of being unemployed - I do the least I can to make sure I have my living needs covered. One can easily do that, living in an RV. I highly recommend getting out of the housing/rental/utilities trap if you can.
Hi BeefJerkyMaker and thanks for the comment. Somehow people have gotten out of the habit of doing nothing, and I think even just taking a week a year to do NOTHING would be great for one’s mental space.
Not a week of running around sightseeing either, or figuring out travel logistics. But honest laziness to let the mind be free from stress for a time.
That sounds awesome, I wish I had a schedule like that! Do you ever get bored with the ’sleeping’ days?
LOL, the schedule is really more like ‘guidelines’…I actually do what I feel like doing, and sometimes even what I don’t feel like doing (ie - laundry).
But I must say sleeping is one of life’s great underrated pleasures.
Hey, we have the same schedule! I sleep all day on every third day.
how about doing a workamping stint to fill a few of your days? My Darlin’ and I are full time rv’ers, and we work part time for our space and propane etc. We get to spend time in the most lovely spots, meet some very nice and interesting people from all over. Not a bad life!
