King and I : Thai Food Restaurant in Downtown Bellevue

July 12th, 2008

A Dan post - May 3rd, 2007: Dan reviewed a Thai food restaurant we could walk to from our old 989 Elements apartment in Downtown Bellevue, outside Seattle, Washington:

My wife and I joined another couple from here at 989 Elements for dinner at the King and I Thai food restaurant (Google Map Link). We went on our friends’ recommendation as they love Thai and have tried just about every option within walking distance.

I thought the food was just fine. They give you a choice of 1-5 on how spicy you want your food. I like mine pretty darn spicy and went with a 4. That put some hot in my mouth so next time I’ll go with 3.

The place is pretty small and we found the service to be good. Our waiter was in training and did a fine job.

From reading other reviews I noticed that they add a 15% gratuity to your bill if you’re in a party of 4 or more. I don’t think I noticed that so I probably tipped them twice. So watch out for that. I personally think they should make it clear that they already tipped themselves.

Thai food sounds great to me. I would probably select a 5 on the spicy scale - my wife would probably go about 3 like your wife did.

I’ll definitely try that out the next time I’m in the area.

The first time I go to a Thai place I usually go low on the spicy-scale, just to see their version of “hot” compared to what I expect. Nothing worse than a delicious meal that it hurts to eat!
